These adjustable oboe staples are made by Chiarugi. The pack includes five (5) staple tops, and four (4) bottoms of different lengths. The different length bottoms allow oboists to easily adjust the overall length of the finished reed without any scraping or clipping. Simply tie the oboe reed onto any of the included oboe staple tops, and then adjust the length as needed for different situations.
The overall length of the staple will help to determine the oboe reed pitch. The longer the length of the oboe staple bottom the lower the pitch will be. The shorter the length of the oboe reed bottom, the higher the pitch.
The ability to adjust the pitch of the reed allows for easy tuning during different situations. When playing with strings you may like to use a 46mm or 45mm staple bottom, but while playing in church with a low organ the 48mm will help to bring down the pitch slightly.
The adjustable oboe staples are also great for new oboe reed makers looking for an easier way to adjust the pitch of the overall oboe reed. Once you have made a functioning reed that may sit a little high or low in pitch, simply choose the oboe staple bottom that helps the oboe reed to play in tune.
Each Chiarugi adjustable oboe staple is made of brass, and has three “O” rings.
